What happened

AMD announced its new Helios rack-scale system for AI workloads. The system combines processors, networking, and hardware inside full server racks. AMD designed the setup to compete directly with Nvidia in the data centre market.

The context

Nvidia currently supplies most of the server racks used to train and run large AI models. AMD wants to offer cloud providers and tech firms a viable alternative. More competition in AI hardware can eventually reduce computing costs.
